The latest pieces from the pile of plasic I have to paint are these HaT Austrian Chevauxleger ....
As you can see, I haven't got around to finishing the bases yet ...a habit I seem to be developing the more I paint my Naps.
I do like the HaT figures but must admit to being a little disappointed with the cavalry I've painted so far. The castings are far from crisp and some of the pieces had excessive flash to remove. Anyhow, it's another unit to add to the slowly growing Austrian force .... I have a box of French Hussars on the way so I'll be getting stuck into those soon. It will be nice to paint something with a little more colour for a change!

The early HaT stuff can be a little "plain" but they look good en masse, and after all that is where plastics score high - cheap enough to go for a lot. But I must admit I am a sucker for the Zvezda cavalry, and worth converting them to other nations where possible.

I agree Marc. I do appreciate the beautifully painted masterpieces some gamers produce but if I were to even attempt to go down that road then I'd be here until Doomsday trying to get my forces together. So long as the figures are tidy and look 'ok' then I think you're right the 'en masse' look more than compensates for lack of painted detail. I will however put a little more effort into individual commander figures ..... when I get that far of course! I haven't tried the Zvezda figures yet but they do look good.
