Snappy Nap: Taking stock

So today I thought I would see just how much of a force I could put together using my newly chosen rule set.  One of the reasons I was drawn to SN was the use of smaller units to represent larger formations and even with my small collection I can still field enough for a decent game ... I think!

The actual number of units can be found by clicking the 'My Snappy Nappy Forces So Far' tab at the top of the page but here's a few snaps ('snaps'....see what I did there?) I took while I was sorting out...

French!

Russian & Austrian

Another view of those Frenchies.

Not a bad start to be going on with but there's still a big pile of plastic to be painted before I'll be satisfied!

  1. Summarizing, you have 22 Infantry, 7 Cavalry, and 4 Artillery for both sides, with 3 commanders. IN SN terms that represents about 88,00 Infantry, 10,000 cavalry and 70 guns for each side - in other words, close to the strengths at Austerlitz!

    1. Hi Peter,

Austerlitz eh?... That can't be a bad start!

      All the best,

  2. Love that basing regime. Is it two figs on a square inch base? You could use that for just about any set of rules, including V&B. Wish I'd thought of it.

    1. The infantry are based 2 x figures to a 25mm x 20mm base and the cavalry are singularly based on 20mm x 40mm bases. For the SN rules I've decided to attach two infantry bases side by side (i.e.50mm x 20mm)
Although the infantry will slightly overlap the cavalry bases when faced up against each other I really can't see it causing major problems and it really doesn't warrant my original plan to re-base the infantry!

  3. Looks great! That's a decent number of units done. I am also a fan of 1/72 figs. I have been following your posts at TMP. You have grabbed my interest in Snappy Nappy. Can't wait to hear about your impression of the rules using your figs.

    Thanks,

    1. Thanks John, glad you're finding it of interest! It's taken me a hell of a long time to find the rule set that actually gives me the type of game I've been looking for.
SN in my opinion is a very under-rated set. I find it far better to play than some of the other 'grand tactical' sets out there.

  4. I was gonna comment that you have some good little armies there, until I saw Peter's comment!

Fine looking fellas they are too. You have us all anticipating your first game now!

  5. Those are good looking armies. Ah, Austerlitz, should be fun.

    1. Thanks Mike. The armies are starting to come together now but ideally I'd like to double their sizes (at least!) in the future but so far so good.

  6. Yesterday I received the Rules from Caliver. Read them twice in the evening. I am really curious about the Morale test rule (which is the only REALLY peculiar mechanic in SN) and would have many questions about points not even touched by the rules.
A test is mandatory to give an opinion, but there are no players here to play with. Maybe I could jump up to UK for a battle Steve? :)

    1. Hi Sergio. Get on that plane and I'll set the figures up!

The morale test to me is the clever part of SN. It's a simple yet effective way of calculating a units overall ability during the game. I particularly like the way units can either slowly disintegrate or (if you're really unlucky) run straight from the field in total disorder!

Thanks for the comment Sergio and enjoy SN!
